FILASTINIYAT in WORDS
FILASTINIYAT is a pro-active, non-governmental
and not-for-profit media advocacy organization,
officially registered at the ministry of
interior in June 2005, committed to ensuring and
supporting the equitable participation of
Palestinian women and youth at all levels of
public spheres and all forums of public
discourse.
Shaping media and public discourse through an
alternative women and youth discourse is a
process that necessitates that measures to
increase women and youth’s participation ought
to be complemented by consistent and systemic
integration of context-specific gender-aware
perspectives and the development of
woman-empowering political, economic, social,
and human rights.
We believe that committing the institutions of
civil and political societies to those goals, to
the integration of gender and youth perspectives
and to the protection of and respect for
Palestinian women’s rights will significantly
enhance the legitimacy of all formal and/or
informal discourses and the durability of
alternative discourse, as well as provide the
framework for the reconstruction of democratic
and accountable institutions and structures that
are capable of creating and sustaining a stable
Palestinian society enjoying democratic values
and practices. Alternative media discourse and
equitable participation of women and youth are
not just abstract social justice goals, but are
also decisive factors in building a just and a
lasting peace, democratic governance and
sustainable development.
Self- funded Activities:
Despite the limited resources Filastiniyat has,
but we managed to conduct quality work that
contributed to placing Filastiniyat on the
forehead map of active civil society
organization.
Filastiniyat
had its first public exposure through a
billboard ad in the middle of Ramallah pointing
out the killing of Usra Azzami, 22 years old
women killed by Hamas militant for suspension of
immoral behaviour walking on the beach with her
fiancé one week prior to her wedding.
